three phase power points- cheap and easy solution in the regions

being an ev driver who drives around the regional areas i have come to the realisation that three-phase-power-points (5 pin) are the answer to the lack of chargers. the fast chargers are good for the main towns but are too expensive to expect them in small towns and localities. whereas t-p-p-points are cheap and easy to install. (a special cord is needed and isn't cheap but it would be worth it). having 3ppp in small towns and localities would enable people to spend more time (because 3ppp charging takes much longer than fast chargers) to enjoy these places instead of driving through. it would also take pressure off the fast chargers and allow them to be used for people in a hurry. 3ppp could be either be provided free of charge to use (paid for by the local community to encourage visitation/tourist dollars) or be attached to a payment platform. also the fast chargers and intermediate chargers being put in by private companies are rolling out and being installed in the wrong places and worst of all they are charging way too much because of their incompetence and profiteering drive. and they are so unreliable and slow to repair. whereas the 3ppp is a very reliable power outlet and can be installed easily and can be done by any electrician. councils and many civic groups are perfectly placed to initiate the rollout of these 3ppp. does anyone else think that this is the solution to infill the areas on the map where there are no chargers?

Rather than install a 3 phase power point (which requires everyone to have an expensive 3 phase portable EVSE), why not just install 3 phase untethered sockets on a post like this one?

@bje you're right. that's even better -except it would be more expensive to install this type of outlet and they would have to engage with a specific supplier to install it and if it became faulty or was damaged it would require a specialist repairer. etc.  whereas a three phase power point can all be done by an electrician. it is totally serviceable. nothing expensive or complicated.

An un-tethered socket like the one shown can be installed and repaired by a licensed electrician. No specialists required and equally serviceable.

but the outlet and frame etc would have to be sourced from a specialist supplier while a 3ppp can be bought from a standard electrical supplier. also a 3ppp would be cheaper to buy and cheaper to replace. there is no complexity or circuitry with a 3ppp. it is so basic and simple. also a number of them can be placed in a row so that congestion can be avoided. also extension cords exist for ev's with odd inputs. 3ppp testers are also available for fault diagnostics. the benefits are indisputable.

Hi @George_m. You've not addressed the requirement for every car using these 3 phase power points to have a single phase or 3 phase portable EVSE with a 5 pin plug. That is a lot of cost to place on the entire set of people wanting to use such charge points. Most people have a type 2 cable already.

yes there is a one off cost for this special cord. approx. $1300. 😳 which is really expensive. but it would open up the usage and convenience of the 3ppp. i would get one asap if the 3ppp adoption was rolling out in haste. and because the 3ppp would be a relatively inexpensive power outlet for the host to set up then the usage cost may be low too. with complicated and costly type 2 chargers the host has to charge as much as they can to recoup their costs and maintenance. also if the adoption of the 3ppp were to become the norm then a manufacturer may come up with a thingy/adapter that plugs into the 3ppp and allows us to plug our type 2 cord into that therefore reducing the cost. also a point worth adding: the 3ppp would be mostly implemented in the regional areas where more people are aware and familiar with the 3ppp. much more than they are familiar with the type 2 Schneider charger for example. this is a huge deal as familiarity is a major advantage to acceptance and understanding and decision making.
