They are safer to be around (no emissions clogging your lungs and causing cancer). But otherwise it depends on the vehicle. I heard that the Tesla Model Y is currently the safest vehicle on Australian roads. But many EVs are just electric versions of petrol or hybrid cars - so I imagine they are no more or less safe than their petrol siblings. And much of the safety is based on the driver - cars can't compensate (much) for stupid or incompetent. Yet.
