Using Chargefox RFID card on NRMA chargers

Hi All,

I Have seen a couple of comments about people using their Chargefox RFID card on NRMA chargers. Is this a thing?

I’m aware the apps are now cross-linked between NRMA and Chargefox. However I have yet to find an NRMA charger that will accept my Chargefox card. Every time I try, I get an “Invalid card” error.

Is there an account setting that enables use of a Chargefox RFID card on NRMA chargers?

Thanks for any advice on this.

Dave.

I guess this is relevant

When will EV roaming be available for EV drivers?

In early April 2024, EV roaming opened as a trial to a small number of NRMA members. All of NRMA’s EV chargers – both DC fast chargers and AC destination chargers - can be viewed in the app for these users.

This cohort currently cannot access the 10 per cent NRMA discount for members on the NRMA’s EV chargers via the Chargefox app (but they can still via the NRMA app.)

The 10 per cent discount for the Chargefox-managed network available to all AMS motorist associations (which also include RACV, RACQ, RAA, RAC, and RACT) is still available to all members in the Chargefox app.

Feedback from the EV roaming trial will guide integration of future features, and be rolled out in phases until all Chargefox users can access the NRMA EV chargers through the app.

I am intrigued.  Is there any update on plans to allow access to NRMA chargers via Chargefox?  What is suppose to be the situation currently?

I am not part of any trial, however on a recent trip Melbourne - Brisbane - Melbourne I used my Chargefox RFID card at all the NRMA chargers en route.  It worked perfectly every time.  As a bonus, charge time and kWh progress were visible on Chargefox during charge.

At one of your chargers, I observed another user unable to initiate charge from  the NRMA app.  He contacted your call centre and they were unable to solve his problem.  Straight after, I plugged in and started charging using my Chargefox card.

For info, my NRMA membership is linked to my Chargefox account.

Sadly, it seems that NRMA are exceptionally unresponsive on their own forum, questions go unanswered for weeks, despite the claim that they are here to answer all questions.

@Jonus thanks for your patience here. The current situation is that all Chargefox users, and not just NRMA Members can access all NRMA chargers through the app or Chargefox RFID card. The My NRMA app is still the only place that NRMA Members can receive discounts on EV charging at our locations, however this is something we're looking at to see if we can expand this into the Chargefox app for NRMA Members. Here's a link to our article on the latest updates

Thanks Paul. Per my OP, what would cause an NRMA charger to reject a Chargefox RFID card, that otherwise works fine on the Chargefox network?

All NRMA charges I have used do not accept my Chargefox card. They either ignore it, or display “invalid card”.

Is there a manual setting or account linking required to enable RFID card use on the other network?

Thanks for your advice.
